Thunderstorm warnings

The thunderstorm that cancelled Tuesday night track

Has been a pretty full on week here, unfortunately track racing on Tuesday night was cancelled due to sweet thunderstorms. The rain only started at 7.30pm which is when the racing was scheduled to start but we saw the huge dark clouds rolling in from about half an hour before racing started! Not very good motivation to warm up when thunder and lightning are surrounding the velodrome...

Wednesday came around and I decided to do a double day, just under 2 hours in the morning then close to 3 hours in the evening. Every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning there is a bunch ride that leaves from the velodrome, it is called the Derby and the last 25km is basically a race back to the track. It is extremely fast and averages about 40-45kmh! I was out on the bike for just over 4 and a half hours so was a good day. Riding home from the track we were riding into dark grey clouds which soon turned into a huge thunderstorm, only 15km from home and I was riding through the scariest thunderstorm I had ever seen! Lightning was stricking less than a km away from us and thunder so loud I was scared! Haha...

Thursday I knocked out 4 hours with Shem so a fairly big 2 days for me then Friday 21st we had a track madison training session as Friday night track racing wasn't on because once a month they have a break from Friday night track racing. Track started at 12 so it was stinking hot and we were doing motorpaced madison's behind the motorbike training for Madison Cup which is the final Friday night racing at the Valley Preffered Cycling Center Velodrome in Trexletown. Following track we rode home and once again rode into a huge thunder/lightningstorm! The rain was almost horizontal and coming straight into our face, it was quite refreshing after a hot track session but was hurting my bare arms and face as some of it was hail!

Tomorrow is Saturday and we have a criterium about 100miles from us, so if we ride together as a team hopefully can win a bit of money as we are running a bit low not having track racing on Tuesday or Friday night! Hopefully the thunderstorms stay out of the way but ya never know around here... It can be 35degrees at the track then 10minutes later can be pissing down with huge thunderstorms!

Next blog I will let everyone know what my plans are for when I arrive home (about 10 days now!) and for the rest of the year... Hope all is well with everyone back home and around the world.
